Led Zeppelin - Hey Hey What Can I Do

Wanna tell you `bout the girl I love
My, she looks so fine
She`s the only one that I been dreamin` of
Maybe someday she will be all mine
I wanna tell her that I love her so
An` thrill her with my every touch
I need to tell her she`s the only one I really love

I got a woman wanna ball all day
I got a woman she won`t be true, no
I got a woman stay drunk all the time
I said I got a little woman and she won`t be true

Sunday morning when we go down to church
See the menfolk standin` in line
Who say they come to pray to the Lord
With my little girl, looks so fine
In the evening when the sun is sinkin` low
Everybody`s with the one they love
I walk the town, keep a-searchin` all around
Lookin` for my street corner girl

I got a woman wanna ball all day
I got a woman she won`t be true, no no
I got a woman stay drunk all the time
I said I got a little woman and she won`t be true

An` in the bars, with the men who play guitars
Singin`, drinkin` and rememberin` the times
My little lover does a midnight shift
She`s followed around all the time
I guess there`s just one thing a-left for me to do
Gonna pack my bags and move on my way
`Cause I got a worried mind, sharin` what I thought was mine
Gonna leave her where the guitars play

I`ve got a woman, she won`t be true, no no
I got a woman wanna ball all day, yeah yeah, now now
I got a woman, stay drunk all the time
I got a little woman and she won`t be true

Hey, hey what can I do
I said she wont be true no
Yeah-no, yeah-no,
Whoa ohh, what can I say
Yeah-no, yeah-no, ahhhhh

Hey, hey what can I do, ahhhh
Keep ballin`, keep ballin`,
Keep ballin`, keep ballin`,
Keep ballin`, keep ballin`,
Keep ballin`, whoa ohh
What can I say, ahhhh
She wanna ball

Hey, hey what can I do
A-keep ballin`, keep ballin`
Keep ballin`, keep ballin`
Keep ballin` yeah, yeah
Whoa ohh,what can I say
A-boogie, a-boogie chillin`
A-boogie, a-boogie chillin`

Hey, hey what can I do
Hah yeah, ah yeah, ah yeah, ah yeah
Whoa ohh, what can I say
Hey, hey what can I do
I got a woman, she won`t be true

Hey, hey what can I do
Ah whoa whoa whoa hear what I say
I got a woman, wanna ball all day
Whoa ohh what can I say
Keep ballin`, keep ballin`

Whoa oh oh oh oh
Hey, hey what can I do
Oohhhhh

- Led Zeppelin, 1970

On a long and lonesome highway, east of omaha.
You can listen to the engine moaning out its one lone song
You can think about woman, or the girl you knew the night before,
But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do.
When your riding sixteen hours and theres nothing much to do
And you dont feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through.

Say, here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.

Well you walk into a restaurant, strung out from the road,
You can feel the eyes upon you as your shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesnt bother you, but you just want to explode.
Most times you cant hear em talk, other times you can.
Oh the same old cliche, as that woman on her a man
You always see my number, you dont dare make a stand.

Here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.

Out there in the spotlight your a million miles away,
Every ounce of energy, you try and give away,
As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play.
Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed,
With the echo from the amplifiers ringing in your head,
You smoke the days last cigarette, remembering what she said.

Now here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.
Here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Ah here I go, playing star again.
There I go, there I go.

Blog - Music : New Music!

It's been a really fracking long time, but I got some new music! I got some CDs for Christmas and I have some on the way from BMG.

I got:

Hammerfall - Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken
Pink Floyd - Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd
Wolfmother - Wolfmother
...and a few more on the way.

The Hammerfall CD is pretty much what I would expect from a Hammerfall album. It's not bad, but I don't think it's as good as some of the others I have or have heard. It's still one that I'll be listening too though!

Pink Floyd. I've been wanting a Pink Floyd album for a while, and I found this one was perfect for me. It has all the songs I know and a lot of other new ones that turned out to be very good. There are some great song titles here too, like "The Great Gig In The Sky", "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". I'm sure the use of mind-altering drugs would enhance the enjoyment of this album, I still really like it regardless!

Wolfmother is a lot different than what I expected. It is very, very good though. I heard either from a friend or on the internet a long time ago that they were compared to Led Zeppelin. Yeah, if they weren't influenced by them then I'll set my CD collection on fire. There is certainly a Zeppelin feel to them. I was really impressed by this CD and it will get a lot of play by me.

Anyways, I have more CDs on the way, and I'll try to get "official" reviews of them all up soon!

Blog - Music : Live Albums
Posted by Mister Vertigo on Tuesday January 16th, 2007 12:38 AM (432 reads)

Lately at home and at work I've been listening to my music collection with the random turned on. I noticed that I seem to get an awful lot of live songs. Not that it's a bad thing, but it made me curious just how many live albums I have. It turns out I have quite a few:

- AC/DC - Bonfire Box Set - (this actually has 3 live discs in it)
-AC/DC - Live
- Alice In Chains - Unplugged
-Alice In Chains - Live & Unreleased
-Alice In Chains - Music Box (Box set that has 3 CDs and lots of live stuff in it)
-Alice In Chains - Live
-Danzig - Thrall-Demonsweatlive
- Guns N' Roses - Live Era 87-93
- Iron Maiden - A Real Live One
- Megadeth - Rude Awakening
- Metallica - One (Single w/ two live songs)
- Metallica - Live At Wembley Stadium, London April 20th, 1992
- Metallica - Nothing Else Matters (Single w/ two live songs)
- Metallica - Wherever I May Roam (Single w/ two live songs)
- Metallica - Live Shit: Binge & Purge
- Metallica - Sad But True (Single w/ one live song)
- Metallica - Destroyer (Bootleg live album)
- Metallica - Hero Of The Day (Single w/ one live song)
- Metallica - King Nothing (Single w/ one live song)
- Metallica - The Unforgiven II (Single w/ one live song)
- Motley Crue - Live Around The World... 1989-1990
- Motley Crue - Live: Entertainment Or Death
- Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been
- Nirvana - Unplugged in New York
- Nirvana - From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah
- Nirvana - With The Lights Out (Box set with 3 CDs, includes many live tracks)
- Pearl Jam - Live On Two Legs
- Pearl Jam - 29/5/00 Wembley Arena
- Poison - Swallow This Live
- Rammstein - Live Aus Berlin
- Van Halen - Live: Right Here, Right Now

Not a bad collection! A lot of these live albums are more that one CD too (Metallica, Pearl Jam, Motley Crue). I'm kind of surprised that I have just about every Def Leppard album but they've never released a live album. There are a couple other albums that have one or two live songs on them, but since most of the CD isn't live I didn't count them.

Anyways, I just found it interesting how many live CDs I have.

Blog - Music : Alice In Chains Week Finale!

YAY! I just got home from the big show. I have to say that I was totally blown away! This was one of the best shows I have ever seen. They played every song that I would have wanted them to play, and they all sounded fantastic.

We arrived at Sokol Auditorium around 7:15. The gates opened at 7:00 and it wasn't too packed yet. The line was still short to get the "beer bracelets" so we did that first. Then we got some drinks and found a place to stand. We wanted to get pretty close, but this place isn't that big so there really isn't a bad place to see the show from.

The opening band was called Hurt. I have heard of them before, but I didn't recognize any of the songs they sang. They were OK. The crowd didn't seem to be too into them either. On their last song they really cranked up the volume a little too much. I'm surprised the speakers didn't blow up the whole venue! It kinda sounded crappy. Oh well.

Hurt finished about 8:45, and there was a 15 minute or so intermission before AIC came out. Now the place was starting to get packed! I've been to a few concerts here before, but I've never seen this many people in there before. They were packed to the walls!

Finally, the lights went down and the music of "Whale & Wasp" played over the PA. It was starting! Each member came out one at a time as the song played. By the time it was over, they were all on stage and they started tearing into the song "Again". WOW! I'm watching Alice In Chains!

On stage, the "new" singer William DuVall did a great job. He sang Layne's parts very well. He was very energetic and is a very good fit with the rest of the band. Jerry was on stage left with his long blond hair and beard. He just kind of jammed over there and didn't say much. He let his amazing guitar playing speak for him. The bass player Mike Inez was great! He had a lot of energy on stage right and really interacted with the crowd a lot. You could tell that he was having a great time! Finally, the drummer Sean Kinney was right in the middle of the stage. He played with a lot of enthusiasm and sounded awesome!

During the first part of the show they played "Bleed The Freak", "Dam That River", "Junkhead", "Rain When I Die", "Brother", and a few others that I'm sure I'm forgetting!

About a third of the way through the show, the lights went down and a video played on the backdrop. It was a 3 or 4 minute tribute to Layne Staley. They showed a lot of video footage, live footage, and home video footage of Layne with the band. It was really cool to see. It's great to know that he will not be forgotten.

After the video, the band came back out on stage, but they had some bar stools and acoustic guitars. It was time for the acoustic set! This was the most amazing part of the show. The band's sound just blew me away. Singing along with "No Excuses" with a few hundred other people will be an experience I will never forget! They played 5 or 6 songs acoustic, finishing with one of my favorites "Down In A Hole".

After the acoustic set, the stage went dark again and they played another short video that kind of spanned the band's career. They showed some video clips and some more live footage, including some of Jerry's solo stuff and recent stuff with William DuVall. Once it was finished the band returned with more heavy stuff! We got "Them Bones", "Man In The Box", "We Die Young", and my favorite "Angry Chair"!

After the encore of "Rooster" and "Would?", the band finally said goodnight. However, they threw out some goodies first. The drummer actually threw out his drum skin (is that what it's called?) like a Frisbee and it went all the way to the back of the place into the balcony! He also threw out a drumstick that I ALMOST HAD! It was on the floor under me and I had one hand on it with a firm grip. Unfortunately, another guy had both his hands on it, so I had to let him have it. At least I got to touch a drumstick! Before everyone left, Jerry stood alone on the stage and thanked everyone. He just kind of stood there for a bit and took in the moment. You could tell that he really appreciated the response he got from the crowd. Go Omaha!

It was an amazing night, and I'm so happy that I finally got to see an Alice In Chains show. It's been a REALLY long time coming! I took quite a few pictures with my camera phone too. They usually turn out OK, but I don't know where my card reader is right now so they will have to be posted another day. You know I'll post here when they are up! Right now, I'm going to go crash in my bed! I feel like I just got hit by a train, and liked it! Hehe! Good-night!

It's almost here! Tomorrow night is the big show! I have listened to their whole library this week. I've been posting about them. I think everyone in the world knows that I'm going to see AIC tomorrow. It's been quite a while since I've been this excited about a concert! Since I don't have to work tomorrow night, I will hopefully be able to get a post up here about the show as soon as I get home.

For my last post, I thought I'd share one of my best memories of Alice In Chains. In July of 1998 I saw Metallica at Sandstone Amphitheatre in Kansas City. I had tickets in the first couple rows right in the center. They were fantastic seats! One of the opening acts for that show was Alice In Chains founder Jerry Cantrell. This wasn't long after he came out with his first solo CD Boggy Depot.

During his show, there wasn't much of a crowd up front yet so I was able to go right up to the barrier in front of the stage. He played a few of his solo songs, but he also performed a number of Alice In Chains songs. It was AWESOME to see him perform those songs! I was right up front and really getting into his show. In fact, Jerry noticed me getting into his music. At one point during the show I remember him looking down at me (I know it was me because there weren't many other people around) and he gave me this smirk and nod like he appreciated me being there. I know a few other people were getting into the AIC songs, but I was enjoying his solo stuff too and I think he recognized that. Unfortunately I didn't get a guitar pick or anything like that, but I do have some pictures here and here.

I remember many, many moons ago when the Alice In Chains album Jar Of Flies first came out. For some reason I can remember the first time I listened to it like it was yesterday. I had a copy of it on cassette, and I had rode in the car with my mom and dad to Orchard. It was parent/teacher conferences and I waited in the car while they went inside to talk to my teachers. I listened to the whole album while I waited. I just remember thinking how great the album was, and how different it sounded. Later I remember being jealous of Brozek when he had a "Whale & Wasp" t-shirt!

Some time later on one of our regular visits to a music store in downtown Norfolk, NE Brozek found a CD by Alice In Chains called Sap. It was pretty cheap since it only had four songs on it, but they were all new songs that we hadn't heard before! It was an older CD that neither of us even knew existed. Jason thought he struck gold! It wasn't too long later that I managed to get my own copy. I remember having a conversation where we discussed how we were probably the only two people in northeast Nebraska who owned that CD!

The big show is a week from tonight! I already have someone lined up to cover my shift at work so I don't have to worry about that. Of course, when I asked for the night off I didn't tell them why. I'm not sure how well that would go over!

Today I thought I'd share some of my earliest memories of listening to AIC. When I first started watching MTV back in the early 90's, AIC's video for "Man In The Box" was just starting to fall out of regular rotation. I saw it a few times, but not on a regular basis. It wasn't until a few years later when the Dirt album came out that I really got into the band. The song "Would?" had been playing quite a bit before the album's release, and then the song "Them Bones" came out. That one got me! I remember Jason and I both got the album and we listened to it a lot. I think I still have a copy of a tiny comic strip Jason drew back then inspired by the lyrics of "Angry Chair"!

Jason went out and got the Facelift album too. I remember my first time listening to it. He had it on tape because he didn't have CD player yet. We listened to it at my house while we were sitting in the family room playing on the computer! It was great album, and I picked it up not too long after he did.

Now for the next part of the band history, again from Wikipedia:
